Windows 7: Speeding up via the UEFI

Yep Kelly and I am just wiping the drive right now and going to install from a stick just in case the CD was corrupt. Mind you the drive came up bad in the Partition Wizard until I formatted it again so maybe the Samsung is going home (or back to my dealers).

Now before I did try updating the BIOS by using a stick inserted into the special USB slot at the back of the board and pushing the BIOS button but nothing happened. The current BIOS is 0906 and the latest is 1616.

However it has now updated to 1616! The that drive being out - surely it couldn't have had anything to do with that could it?

Hopefully this will sort the thing out at least I hope so.

I would go with BIOS update 1504. It's not always the best practice to use the absolute newest BIOS available......sometimes they don't work great when they first come out.

Did you rename the file correctly before you put it on the USB stick? Using that method, I've never had a problem flashing the BIOS.

Hum done now um not much I can do about it. I am just burning the boot disk so will get back Kelly and let you know what the heck is going on.

There should be a file that tells you what to rename your .cap file to that is specific to your motherboard. You physically put that renamed .cap file on a USB stick and go at it that way.

Hello well the reinstall did the trick - so far haven't measured the boot time yet but it is quick and no probs with Google.

I did however pick the updates as and when and the BIOS update seems to be ok.

How strange dual-channel Ram sticks & specs...

The RAM looks OK but should run at at least 2133MHz.
these board don't have a choice of Legacy/UEFI boot, my Sandy Bridge board doesn't at least. Just slapped in the DVD/USB stick and install as always have.

Did you install the Intel Rapid Storage drivers? The SSD will run much better with it. The SSD should be plugged into one of the white SATA 6GBS ports.

Thanks NoN there is nothing I can put my finger though. Other thing is too it wouldn't boot from a USB and even a CD that I made from the USB - just would not accept the activation code that was on the board originally - OEM although I did transfer one from a dead board to a laptop without a hitch before now.

So I ended up using the dreaded CD from the box and away it went.

Power on to login is 20secs and yes I thought it a bit out of the ordinary that the manual staes the sticks have to be in A2 and B2 - furthest away from the CPU.

Now I am going to load my usual gear on like Office and stuff like - Kaspersky's already on and running and finish of Brinks tweaks.

When I get a bit more used to the workings I'll try getting the CPU frequency up from the 3.4 to say 3.8GHz to see what difference that makes.

All in all looks to be a much better day today thanks to you and everyone else who has put up with me as I do tend on the manic side of life

Yeah mate the USB shows up in the Ezy and boot sections but no matter what I set it to it would not go.

The other thing is that BIOS flash utility I cannot work out how it worked as there were no lights as was supposed to be but at least it is now the latest version.

Yep got all the important drivers in as Kelly I think told me how to avoid the bloat (very hard to see the tabs at the top of the GUI) and am picking th eupdates too for while.

I'll try that 2133MHz in a bit but while it is behaving itself I want to get my other stuff on. Am just so please the darn thing is working.
