Thanks NoN there is nothing I can put my finger though. Other thing is too it wouldn't boot from a USB and even a CD that I made from the USB - just would not accept the activation code that was on the board originally - OEM although I did transfer one from a dead board to a laptop without a hitch before now.
So I ended up using the dreaded CD from the box and away it went.
Power on to login is 20secs and yes I thought it a bit out of the ordinary that the manual staes the sticks have to be in A2 and B2 - furthest away from the CPU.
Now I am going to load my usual gear on like Office and stuff like - Kaspersky's already on and running and finish of Brinks tweaks.
When I get a bit more used to the workings I'll try getting the CPU frequency up from the 3.4 to say 3.8GHz to see what difference that makes.
All in all looks to be a much better day today thanks to you and everyone else who has put up with me as I do tend on the manic side of life
