I'm well aware that it won't compete with a trio of Nvidia 690s, but based on my experience with a Nvidia 620m it should do what I want it to do. I'm planning on putting one in a case about 8" deep, 12-14" wide, and 2" tall, and using it as a general HTPC.


Has anyone else looked at the R series, and think they can find a use for it?

I would love to build a system with an i7-4770R, but as far as I can tell, you cannot at this time. Since it is BGA / OEM only, you will not be able to put it on a motherboard yourself, and I have not seen any motherboards with an embedded -R chip - not in production nor announced. In fact, I have not seen any products at all with an -R chip yet. If you know of any, let us know...

But Trinity IS 1/4th the price...

Mostly I'm waiting for reviews on the 4770R and it's motherboard before I make a decision.

Given that an HTPC is basically just a media player, does that even matter?

EDIT: I find android mini-PCs much more interesting (also cheaper) for HTPC roles nowadays.

I'll admit I'm looking at the Alienware X51 R2. It won't be as compact, but It'll be a fair bit better.

4770 would be a downgrade for me. Might pick up IB-E when it comes out.
