Windows 7 - I want to swap am3 procesors

my quetion is right now im running a a phenom 2 x4 quadcore 2.8 overclockd to 3.2 i want to go ahead and buy the black edition 3.4 ghz quad what do i have to do before and after installing a new procesor im not familliar with the new stuff i just recently built this new rig based on my old p4 bomed out so i need to know will the bios auto detect or do i have to do some clearing and redoing the bios please if anyone has a educated idea please sharei ill be indebted to you my friend lol

Well, all you gotta do is just buy your Phenom II x4 965 and install it, if it works, you're good to go; if it isn't, install your Phenom II x4 925 and download the bios and flash it.

well i guess that is it simple i think i might buy that new cpu soon so i can clock it over

As kurahk7 said, its fairly easy.

Take off the CPU cooler.
Pull out the old CPU.
Put in new CPU and lock it.
Put on new thermal paste.
Put on new CPU cooler.

One additional concern is energy draw from the bigger chip and OC'g. At this time it is always a good idea to double check power supply and motherboard capacity if both are good than proceed. As well review your cooling strategy as this is the best time to address this as the best solutions could require access to the back of the motherboard to install a back plate for larger air or water cooling !

The first thing is to go to your motherboards website and check if you current bios will support the new cpu. If not then update bios before you install the new cpu.

my bios is updated i think it can actually support hex core or 6 core but im going to make sure and wait a while since i just built this rig the reason i asked about the cpu cause of the bios issue but if it is updated i can toss it right in

also i gonna wait a bit i could grab a better board along with cpu and some ddr3 im running ddr2 so in the near future i will upgrade thanks for the advice and you will be repped

From what I have gathered, that switch will not be a huge upgrade for the OP.
Video card and the chipset on the motherboard will be bigger factors to consider, IMHO.
I'm wondering what brought on the want for improvement?
