I would have bought a Nook Color and run Honeycomb on it. Not much more expensive and a lot more interesting.

    Right on time!

For $250, why not buy a netbook?

(I'm not being a Smart-Alec - I assume there is a good reason, but just don't know what it is.) :)

But a netbook is a completely different animal. Plus it is bulky.

I don't have a Nook, but instead have a Kindle. As far as reading books go, I'd rather do it on the Kindle than any laptop, netbook or tablet. It's small, balanced nicely and runs 4-6 weeks on a charge. And the 3G coverage is free from Amazon.

Do you happen to know whether Amazon also has free 3G for the Nook Color? Link?

The Nook is Barnes And Noble e-reader. Just like Amazon, the 3G versions of the Nook are $50 more expensive then the wi-fi only versions.

Understand. But you need a contract with a carrier in addition to the extra $50 - don't you?

In the case of Amazon, you don't. I would be very surprised if you needed one with the Nook. Of course, the 3G support really only gets you to the Amazon marketplace to buy books. It's not like you could surf the web or use it for other things.

Thanks for the clarification. I had hoped you could get a cheap general 3G access. They really make it diffícult to live on a budget.
