ASUS P67 5.2Ghz on air

It seems like a lot of the issues come from trying to run two different cards or two different manufacturers cards together. But where you have both cards exactly the same and on the same manufacturers mobo I'm hoping that some of these issues could be eliminated or minimized. Any additional thought are appreciated as I'm not looking to waste additional monies or time if this causes nothing but headaches !

All good points. I jumped from Nvidia BFG GTX260 Maxcore which was blue screening over 60% of the time on boot, once past it ran great. To a MSI R5770 Hawk which runs better and hasn't blue screened once nor do I expect it to. but maybe I'm best to leave well enough alone and be happy with the one card. More research will be required.

In my experience, ATI (AMD now) drivers are TERRIBLE.

However, that is JUST my experience, others have no issue at all.

Ive not run a Crossfire or SLI setup, but have read about numerous issues.


But heres my take on it, for whatever its worth.

I've never really had the need for more than 1 card. I mean, when I buy a new card, that single card its usually perfectly fine for any game I play, and for most upcoming games.

By the time it starts showing its age where a multiple GPU setup would improve things, theres already next Gen cards out that do just as well as Single Card Vs. a Crossfire setup of the current one.

As far as driver issues, I've not really had any issues with my GPUs and Drivers so far, but only run single cards.
Obviously that not saying issues do not exist, Ive just been lucky enough to avoid them for the most part.
I do think its fair to say however, driver problems happen with both camps.

I am tempted to try multiple cards, but I suppose I just prefer upgrading to a higher end single card every couple years.

Curious about Nvidia setups, and hopefully someone here knows :)

Lets say I buy and run a GTX 570 as my main card.
Then, I add a GTX 460 as a dedicated Phys-X card.

So if I have a Motherboard thats (x16 or x8,x8) Does that mean with both cards, even though one is only for Phys-X, they will run at x8??
Or would the 570 still run at x16?

I know if you SLI, it would drop to x8,x8 but wasnt sure if the same happens in this situation. :)

+1 to what Wishmaster says. I don't use SLI or Crossfire. Have never really had any game that I tried to play that required more than a single card could perform. I just prefer the simplicity and cost/power savings of running 1 card.

i've had a couple of friends do SLI in the past...and it seems that they are more or less all single card users once again. Seems it wasn't worth the hassle for them.

All excellent points and as I've even given advice here to have people stick with the single best GPU you can afford rather than the issues of two or three together, I'm going to take my own advice and yours and enjoy this sweet card in a swinging single mode.
