    AMD Athlon X2 240 overclocking...


    Well hello there, so today I was wondering in a random thought, how far can an Athlon 240 processor be safely and realistically pushed? I've been able to clock it to 3.92ghz, but I need new thermal paste since it crashed in prime95 after a few minutes since it was running a tad hot.

    So that brings up my point, has anyone been able to get an Athlon to go at 4.004ghz realistically? And by realistically, without extreme cooling setups or water cooling? Also, what are the safe zones for voltage and temps? I can't find anything up to date other than from 2005 and I think that might not be very applicable at this point in time. Yep.

    That isn't much of an overclocking chip. I wouldn't expect it to get more than 250MHz above stock ever.

    Actually, it's a pretty adaptable processor from my experience so far. I'm successfully able to clock it at 3.87 real easily and clock it back down to save some energy and it runs great. But I'm really wondering what's the safe limits on it though...

    Well, you don't want to push the voltage up much, and you want to keep idle temperatures in the same range as what they were with the chip at stock.
