    AMD Overdrive locked?

So yeah, in my Catalyst Control Center the Overdrive thing is locked, all the bars etc. are like light coloured and can't be moved anywhere.

I can't set the clock settings there nor can I set the fan speeds...

How can I unlock them? I haven't ever updated my BIOS so could that have something to do with it, I've heard some stuff like that...

    Thanks

First if available you have to click on the lock to unlock it,

With it being a laptop though, it may also be that it is locked out/disabled on purpose as there isn't any way to get rid of any extra heat generated.

Great tip on the heat issue by enabling the overclock tab.

I tried to hit you up but....

    Anway good advice.

Oh, just noticed the key button there. It's key in my version, not a lock.
Didn't realize it can be clicked. Seems like it would open it, but it gives me a really long list of stuff and tells me I shouldn't and that they won't do anything to it if I break it and all.

I've never tried overclocking etc. should I just leave it be there like that?
Since at the moment, I really don't need more power, I was mostly interested about why it's locked...

(GPU clocksetting seems to be at 700Mhz and memory clock settings at 1000Mhz, those upper ones, not the current ones.)

But as a off-topic question, how can I find out what version is my BIOS and should I upgrade it, would I get some benefits with it? (I couldn't find a section for BIOS, so I'm asking here :/ )

    700/1000 is the default clocks,

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Unless something is running that requires it, the current values should be quite a bit lower for power saving.

As for which bios version you have this,

CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

should be able to tell you. As for updating it, the only place to get the bios from for a laptop (or any OEM computer like a Dell, HP, etc) is directly from the laptop manufacturer.

Okay, sorry for going totally off-topic with this, but I really wouldn't like to start a new thread for this :/

So, my BIOS version is E1727IMS. 10A
And the manufacturer's site has this: MSI Europe – Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more

What would that do? Or is there somewhere a list etc. where I can check all the versions and what they've done?
