Some case lighting help.

Hey!

I've been pondering and wondering for a while about this idea of mine, basically, it's like AlienWare's stage lighting, or interiror case lighting so when you pop open the side panel, some LED lights turn on powered by a battery. Like, I could crack open my case and have the drive bays illmuniated, the motherboard and the back interface panel too.

So I want to know if anyone has an AlienWare system that has that or if anyone has built something like. I've tried to research this, that turned up nothing. I'd need a battery that is chargable and either SATA or PATA connected. Hmmm....

By the way, I actually got this idea two years ago and didn't know if any manufacturer did that, so that goes to show how creative I am.

Doesn't seem to difficult to rig in theory you just need a pressure switch that will activate when the panel is removed. I don't think you'd need to go anywhere other than a typical radio shack to find the parts for what you are planning.

Yeah, I'd wire the system as such, but I have no clue where to get a battery to power it. I don't want it to be just solely when the system is running, but when it's off.

Look at hobby shops for Nicad packs and such or even Radio Shack as mentioned but they don't carry as much in store anymore.

you might could wire the pressure switch and steal from the power supply's 5v standby. just so you dont have to worry about the battery

Hmm, that kind of sounds interesting. I'd never would had thought that! If I can't find a battery to power that setup, I'll definitely resort to that, but preferably, I'd have a battery for that.

Question though, if I get a Nicad pack, how would I wire that so it would charge up and also be connected to a peripheral connector?

lol, if you wanted fool proof power you could find one of those small flashlights that you work the lever to powerup, take it apart and screw it to the inside floor of the case. It would be about the perfect amount of power for a led light set up.
