Do you use your PC, or just test and change hardware?

A Guy, I'm not a gamer or any kind of hardware tester. I wanted a very fast and powerful machine with great visualization – multiple monitors. A gaming rig was my only choice. This is my second scratch build. The first was a dual monitor setup that was fast for its day – P4 2.0a, 512MB RDRAM, GeForce FX 5600, 2-21” CRTs. Today, I’m into 2-D and 3-D animation, music and movies. I’m semi-retired and am always in front of my computers doing something – no TV – too depressing. I make use of all 3 monitors on a regular basis while the little machine is busy downloading. I’m just an old fart that kinda understands these new fancy things. Check out the links.

    Edwin,
Outstanding set up! Let me ask if using a smaller center screen then the two flanking screens does this effect the images in an sort of negative way if you had three identical screens would that change things. I'm just using two screens the same and I've wondered if saving some real estate buy using a smaller center impacts the images across the three?

linnemeyerhere, the center CRT is left over from my PIV 2-monitor setup. I have the 2-LCDs on blocks to bring everything in line for general work, with the resolution set to 1024x768. When I run G-Force visualization, I set the CRT to 1600x1200 to enable the full flow across the 3 monitors. The color difference with the CRT is OK since it’s in the center. As I stated in my original post, I won’t be satisfied until I have 3-25” LCD monitors. For now I’m extremely satisfied with my 3-monitor hybrid setup.

Hi all. Thanks for the comments.
linnemeyerhere, I may have confused you about my CRT monitor. It's set to 1024x768 for general work. There are no issues switching between the different resolutions (LCDs at 1920x1080). I usually open 2 pages on the LCDs and 1 on the CRT when performing everyday tasks. For G-Force visualization, I kick the CRT to 1600x1200 and make 1 large G-Force window that spans all 3 monitors. I had to play with the screen placement on the CRT to get everything in line. I'm real happy with the results, especially since I can control the visualization from my PIII. As to gaming, I'm can't comment on Game Quality. I know the other hardware will handle most PC games, but I've never played a game - on any PC, XBox, Wii, Playstation or Ninendo. Galaga was my last attempt at becoming a gamer.
Thanks everyone for sharing. I’m looking forward to seeing more monster Rigs.
