You can get some info here about who actually makes certain PSUs--though I'm not sure how up to date it is. Most brands just have someone else build the thing and then slap their name on it.

Any thoughts as to why I may want to go CORSAIR Professional Series HX850 over XFX PRO850W or vice versa?

I'd probably look at jonnyguru reviews and see if it had anything on the XFX.

If I couldn't find a review, I'd go with the Corsair.

XFX has a good reputation, but I'd still try to find a review of that particular model. It's probably made by Seasonic to meet a certain set of XFX-designated specifications. You just don't know what those specs were.

I wouldn't agonize over the choice.

But you should check the included connectors to make sure they match up with your video card.

It's also possible that one has longer cables than the other---which may help if you have a tall case. You should be able to get cable length info in a review or at the Corsair/XFX web sites.

On air this would be my choice.
Noctua.at - sound-optimised premium components "Designed in Austria"!
I would also choose a Corsair power supply in eater AX-850 Gold or if you think you will some day go SLI a AX-1200 Gold.

Both Corsair and Noctua IMHO are quality. I would suggest checking out reviews on all your selection before buying. It took me many hours looking at reviews from sits I trust before I spent the money. Out of all the brands I chose Asus was the only one I had problems with but a couple of RMA's took care of that.

If you havent bought it yet I would look over at microcenter.com for your processor and board. Check out the sale ad at the top. I was able to get an ASUS z68 board and i5 2500k for around 280. I also got RAM from there. Actually I got most of my build there now that I think about it.

Have a look at linus teach tips he works for ncix and he does reviews on psus gpus cpus etc etc
IMHO
Id go with the corsair due to me having good experiences in the past from them eg my h60
But you couldd always splash out and get the xfx platinum serise of psu's ive heard exelent things about them
