I would have to run it at stock to really tell you that. Only had it at stock long enough to let Windows do its thing with the new CPU, and after that immediately went to 3.6 GHz, rans a few tests and tried a couple of games and then took it to 4.0.

I can tell you that there is a very noticeable difference between the 955 and the x4 630 (that was running at 3.4 GHz) that was in before, in games and such for the short time I had it at 3.6. And can see and feel the difference at 4.0 over 3.6.

    Question to all
With all the good numbers and benchmarks floating around, does anyone see an actual big jump in performance in day-to-day use? I never have other than apps maybe opening a little faster.
The only performance jump I noticed is in benchmarks and some games. That's mainly it for me. I guess it all comes down to what you do with your system, especially once you overclock it.

That said I'm still on the old i7-900 series CPU's running on a 1366 chipset - overclocked my i7-950 from 3.08 to 3.86gig. I wanted to keep it where my memory is running at it's max speed of 1600MHz and 3.8 does that while being rock solid 24/7 stable. It's been running that way for about a year now.

Anyway these newer systems my give more of a performance jump in terms of overall system speed seeing that a lot of these chips can be pushed to at 4.5gig.

    That's my take.

Aside from the 'slightly' snappier feel, it's mainly games and encoding that the difference is apparent.

For just email, browsing web etc ... I never really noticed any change between stock clocks and OCed settings.

But I do alot of Video Encoding and Gaming, and there I see a rather substantial difference.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am hoping to see better performance with Photoshop and Corel when I get them reinstalled.

Though a stronger CPU helps, RAM is more important when it comes to Photoshop. I use CS5 and hadn't noticed much of a difference in performance when I OC'd my CPU, but then again my OC was less than a gig.

I will add that CS5 is pretty snappy on my sytem which includes 6gig of RAM. You can see my system specs below.

Thanks, when I get my system back together I will have 8GB @ 1866 9-11-9.

Photoshop should love that, especially if you have the 64-bit version.

I have 64 bit, you mean no more watching the progress bar snake across the window while an image renders?
