Yikes! Lucky you didn't smoke that CPU! Must admit, I spent considerable time researching coolers before deciding on the Hyper 212+. Looked an some Noctuas, Proliminatech Megatherms Rev B, Scythe Mugen V2, and some others that performed slightly better, but were much more expensive, and considerably larger. I'm glad I picked it as it performs great for me, and in reading in the years since then, it is highly recommended. Not just as a low cost solution, but as a solution period. A Guy

Yep, the Hyper 212+ is good all round performer.

Bill I watch those temps carefully. LOL. Yeah, about 50% of the CPU wasn't making contact. I noticed one of the two middle cores was several degrees higher under load than the other, so expected poor contact. Now the teo middle cores run about the same

Patrick - it sure is a nice little performer.

So I have looked at the brackets on the Hyper 612 and I think the problem is that the bracket is slightly bent towards the MB giving the screw room to pop out of its indent as it is being tightened (if you look at the picture of the end of the screw, the thread doesn;t go all the way up to the head). So anyone with a Hyper 612 experiencing these issues, check that your brackets are true.

I am through messing with it myself. My target was 4.5 GHz and I am there fine with the 212+

70-72c under Prime load .. that looks pretty good IMO.

That should mean the most heavy real worl load should probably hit maybe 62C. Which is a really good place to be I think.
Yeah, these chips are pretty amazing, but everyone already knows that. I am kind of trailing edge I get the last years technology right before the new comes out.

Wonder how the Ivy bridge will do. They should at least run cooler.

My PC is 2 years old this Thursday I'm still on an i5 750. Serves me well, and no plans to replace. I keep mine a while. I know I'm unusual here

Mate if it does the job, that's all you can ask for and it's not as if it's a slouch

I just got a Hyper EVO which is identical to the 212+ except the heat tubes have no space btween them. Seems to do a real good job so far, but I've not tried to make toast with my CPU.

Found the enthusiasm and got a 5-7c drop in temps across all cores

    5-7C drop?

thast pretty significant for TiM. Usually a 1-3 difference beteen most.

Im still using MX-2 as I have for awhile now. maybe its time to start looking others. :)
