Go with the Samsung over the Kingston...........all day long. The max sequential read/write speeds don't mean much in day-to-day real world application. Also, Samsung makes all of the components in their SSD's, and it does not have a Sandforce controller like the Kingston does.

I have both the 120 Gb Kingston Hyper X III SSD and the 128Gb Samsung 840 Pro. The Samsung product may be a bit more expensive, but I can definitely tell you it out performs the Kingston, at least on my system.

I would go with the Samsung too, but not because they make all of their stuff or 'cause it doesn't have a SandForce controller. Only because it performs better.
Actually, IMO, having a controller with a larger installed base is better. More chances of improvements and fixes over time.

I'd never consider a Sandforce controller as better........from my experiences.

Glad to see you have it up and running, Bungee. Well done.

@Kbrady. I have one and I agree with you. Aside from a reliability problem, their controller gains it's speed from compressing data. That works well until you try to read or write non compressable data. Then the numbers fall way off.

The Intel 520 SSD I had was pretty fast during testing as long as it was compressible data, numbers for incompressible data were pretty bad. Then the drive failed a day later.

Right. 840 Pro it is, then.

Now for my latest addition to the rig:

Makes my Xonar moot for the time being but the novelty will soon wear off. After I get the SSD I'll concentrate on picking up some new speakers.

Those look nice, my friend. Wish I had some. Mine are about $30, but they get the job done. As you can tell, I'm not an audiophile. But, I can get my CPU to 4.6 stable.

For $99 (I got them for $80 at Amazon) they're just about the best bang for buck around, and the sound is incredibly clear. The virtual 7.1 is, well, it's virtual - but I didn't buy them for that anyway.

    Also, showoff.

Incredibly so. Picture those headsets you'd see roller bladers wearing in the 80's and there you go, and while you're at it: imagine the most comfortable headset you've ever worn.

    You got it?

    These are more comfortable.
