It happens more than you might think,

Main way to prevent it from happening is to make sure that the computer has been running before removing the heatsink, that way the thermal paste/pad is warm and more pliable.

That's happened to me, AMD AM3 socket. An old Dell. I was trying to flip the heat shroud back. The heat sink with the CPU stuck to it went with it. I had to straighten out a few pins along one edge of the CPU but I got it all working again. The old thermal past was like glue. I had to use a small screw driver to separate the CPU from the heat sink.

No, he said that his dad is the one who did this to it. It's in his 2nd reply (Post #3) in this thread.

Thermal Paste
After reading some good reports on Shin Etsu thermal paste, I bought some, but am having a lot of problems with getting it to spread properly. It tends to clump together, and when forcing it out, it leaves such a thin covering that the lettering on the CPU is still plainly visible. I'm about to...

Thermal paste

Thermal paste, not another applying question..
Hey everyone! My first time changing a CPU cooler and I got a few questions besides the application procedure, the questions: 1. Does the paste need to harden before turning on the computer? If yes, how long? 2. How do you know if bubbles develops? Temp spikes? 3. Can I start OC'ing right...

Used way too much thermal paste
This isn't that important, all it is is that I'm worried. It was my first time round putting thermal paste onto a cpu, and i sort of used an entire 3.5g syringe of arctic silver 5 underneath a zalman9700. Yes some did come over the sides, wiped it off, I'm guessing there is a layer inbetween...
