My trade is called Special Systems, it's the installation of commercial security/fire/access control & CCTV systems and I use the latest technology available, well latest software anyways so you'd think I'd be up on the latest hardware too but obviously not, lol!

you cant update hardware/software well you can but your not going to see the difference with an old CPU/Motherboard/Hardware

Seriously save your money buy into new technology

I cant stress enough about people who throw money in to old tec and not see anything improving

I disagree to a point. You can upgrade old equipment very cheaply with new/used parts. My old 2 core AMD well never come close to my 8 core AMD, but I was pleased with the performance improvement $120 made in the old box. XP boots up in 15 seconds now, sure it's a slow sata driver but it's the only box in the house that can read a floppy disc. E-mail-IE8 are as fast on the 2 core as 8 core. I'd rather use it than recycle it I guess.

I found that the new 64 bit Windows box can not run some of the older programs I still use or even run some older games. The updated "old" box does this incredibly well now without tossing tons of cash at it. Plus I can't put a price on the fun factor of modding it.

I did not say you could or could not upgrade but you will not see any difference in my option upgrading out to date cpu and motherboards that are old tec it's like putting Ferrari parts in a VW 90s model

Just because something is faster does not always mean it will work properly

You are running a commercial business dealing with security ect.
Do you customers a big favor and upgrade your equipment.
Using such old equipment is like trying to walk a dog sideway.

In my system specs I wrote my motherboard was a AMD680GM-M2, I was wrong, it is a ECS AMD690GM-M2, sorry about that! In the article at this link (ECS AMD690GM-M2 Motherboard Review | Hardware Secrets) it states that my MB can be overclocked, can someone help me out here?

Slight misunderstanding! I don't own a security company I'm a systems installer who works for the company.

If you google overclocking you well find a lot of tech articles and several overclocking forums. Spend some times reading all points of view. Keep in mind OC'ing can shorten the lifespan of equipment, mostly because of additional heat. Extra cooling is a must.

There is a satisfaction in getting free performance from your system by overclocking, but don't expect to see a big difference. 10-15% can be achieved without a great expenditure on custom cooling equipment, it's not that noticeable.

My XP box is almost ten years old and it was middle of the road equipment when I assembled it. Today I can find that old equipment, top of the line, for pennies on the dollar. It's a very inexpensive and fun project. It's a secondary system so if I screw the pooch, no big deal.
