    Upgrading RAM question

    Hi guys,

I have recently been given some money from a family member, and i've been wanting to upgrade my RAM to 16GB for a while now, so am gonna do it with the little cash boost.

Now i was just wondering if its better to get 4 X 4gb sticks or 2 x 8gb sticks.

I have 2 X 4gb now and i could save a little bit of money by just getting another 2 or if it would be better i could get new sticks of 2 X 8gb.

Thanks for any input in advance
    Toby

Have you already gotten everything else you need? A nice SSD for the OS, good CPU cooler, etc? You will notice next to no difference going from 8GB of RAM to 16GB unless you use editing software or something that will eat up the RAM. Literally, no difference and I'm not exaggerating.

From your system specs you have a pretty solid build i would say save your money unless you NEED more RAM and if you do buy the RAM i would say buy 8x2 Gives you the option to Run 32GB if you ever need to

It would be better to get just 2 x 4GB's it'll save you some money too I guess and will be less heat produce :)

Another thing you could do if you go for the 8GBx2 you could sell your current ram online or to a friend so its not just sitting around collecting dust and you could use that money towards another upgrade in the future

I would buy 2 4gb sticks to match what you have and use the remaining toward a 256gb Samsung 840 Pro, retire the Agility 3 to games...or buy a second 7950 and CrossFire. You have a nice rig now, hard to make any major upgrades without tons of $$$$.

The 2x8 sticks but real world performance you won't see a difference between 8 and 16. I don't even use all my ram having 6 tabs open in Firefox while having iTunes playing music and running team fortress 2 at the same time. Only game that some what uses it for me was max Payne 3 but my mem only hit 5gb and hit man absolution hit around the same area. I have yet to see my machine use above 6gb yet. You would only benefit if you run multiple virtual machines or lots of photo and video editing.

I would tend to agree as you have some banging ram right now. Add a great CPU cooler and as I have the same case run this I would suggest with upgrade fans and you'll be able to OC stable to some higher speeds and run quieter.
