    New build

Now before we all go getting excited this is just a basic build and I just want some ideas please
Am wanting to build a small low budgetfor a mate who just Ebays, Facebook, simple card games, emails, usual etc etc
Now I have picked out these as they arefairly reasonable and I can manage them ok. The RAM I have a stack of spareDDR3 sticks that I can throw in for nothing

Thermaltake Black Versa II Mid TowerCase with 500w$75

    Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H Motherboard $75

    ASUS H61M-A-USB3 Motherboard $65

    Intel Pentium G2130 $85

    Lite-On IHAS324 24x DVDRW $22

    CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Evo $25

    Seagate Barracuda 500GB ST500DM002$59

    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bitwith SP1 $109

    _____

    $425(Giga) ($366)*

    $415(Asus) ($356)*
    Alternative AMD set up

    AMD A6 5400K 2-Core Processor $69

    Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-HD2 Motherboard $85
    _____

    Total $444 ($385)*

Personally from a preference point ofview I like the Intel set up but what does everyone else think ideas please. The case by the way comes witha Thermatake PSU.

*Plus I probably have a spare 500GBSeagate Barrucuda here too so that would lighten the build by that amount.

I'd second the APU route John, they're nifty little builds.

Ok lads I will go withthe AMD stuf and the prices are fairly close to what Tommy has ref'd in Newegg - real surprise.

I must admit the first real new computer I had since an old Dell XP was AMD based pre build and I found it pretty darn good - I stuck a 260 CPU in it plus an SSD and 500GGB spinner and shipped it to the UK for my brother. I'm glad you mentioned that board too because although it is $14 more than the one I quoted I liked the RAM speeds it can get to and like I said I have a cache of them in my spares.

So if you ever need any DDR and DR2 I have a cast of millions - plus enough 3@ 1333 & 1600 to easily cover this build.

Thanks again for the head up.

Tommy I have just remembered I have an Athlon II 240 sitting spare would this board be ok I am just trying to keep the cost down for him. The CPU s ok as it is the one I swapped out for a 260 for my brothers machine? ASUS M5A78L-M LX V2 Motherboard [M5A78L-M-LX-V2] - $69.00 : PC Case Gear

It means I can slash the total cost to $231if I just have to get this board I know it isn't high tech but my mate is just your average used and isn't into heavy gaming.

I would go with an AMD APU (Accelerated Processing Unit)socket FM 1 or FM2, because it has a GPU built it like the Intels do so could save the cost of that. The older GPUs you may have might not work well with a new board and CPU.

The PSU with that case should run the system quite well and if Mark does nothing more intensive than watch you tube cat videos the APU will be great for him.

Ok Gary I was just trying to save him a bit of money and I had that CPU just sitting there well I have two in actual fact but not for those board by the look of things but never mind the CPU is not that much just the board at $100 here seemed to jack the price up quite dramatically by about $160. I suppose he will do my mowing for free of his usual charge well sort of for the machine bits on a couple of visits. .

In the long run when you look at it you are saving him money
The older the system the more that could happen most of the time I give any part 3 years life span if you are using it daily

With older components come higher cost when trying to replace them as well if you get him a new build altogether he would be able to get the parts with a RMA older parts I doubt they even have warranty anymore

Also the plus is he would have a good 5 years or more if he is a moderate user and that still saves money 500.00 to last for at least 5 years is a good deal in my book
