    Help flashing BIOS

I have a custom build computer. My mobo is a Foxconn Winfast NF4K8AC BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 G 12/20/2005. I've downloaded the updated BIOS file and it came with a program I guess to install it automatically but when I run it it tells me its not compatible with the version of Windows I am using. The reason why I need to flash my BIOS is I recently maxed out my RAM to 4gb but my computer will only read 3.00 gb. Is my BIOS the problem ? I know I won't see a full 4gb but there should be more than just 3gb showing. I have ran a memory diagnostic and everything checked out fine.

Most likely yes; the bios is the issue; as it wont allow the system to expand past 4gb ram.

If the bios is not a problem, it might be the graphics. If you have an integrated graphics solution, it would use up ram for that.

If you are using 32 bit windows you won't see all the ram. My 32 bit W7 only sees 3.24g of the 8g on the motherboard, I also run 64 bit 8.1 pro which sees all of the ram. This is with a separate graphics card. As Dukethedj says, onboard graphics will grab some more ram.

Sorry ,missed your 64 bit os. Perhaps there are different bios files available, if possible try the newest one.

iv'e just looked at the NF4K8AC motherboard manual and the list of bios updates. I cant see any bios updates which are related to ram. The bios updates are through Windows via "Super Update" for Windows XP and Win 2000, it might work in compatibility mode with W7 64. These motherboards can only take 4X 1g ram modules, it would be worth checking in the bios that all the ram is seen as one might be faulty. If the bios does only see 3gb then first try reseating the ram.

Almost certainly this could be why.

Integrated graphics will always use a certain amount of ram, how much depends on how it is set in the bios.

Look at the memory tab of Resource Monitor, I`m sure all your ram is there.
