There is a new BIOS version out. I'll give that a try before I post the temps at the HWinfo64 forum.

Thanks for the idea.

There is no way on Gods green earth that the Socket temp is that low vs core if anything that socket should be 5c above core
You can try a new bios that should correct it

I think you have it backwards. It's the core temp that's way too low, but I get your meaning.

Trying a new BIOS tonight.

I was reading the Hardware info one i just now seen the core temp one lol

The core temp socket was at 37c while cpu was 25c 17c correct

Now Hardware info boosted the Socket to 51c and cpu 36c 5.1c a lot lower that is the one i read

Well, I updated to the most recent BIOS, but the problem remains:

I really can't figure this out. It must be a fault in the chip or the stepping version.

I think I'll just use 20 degrees as a rule of thumb when I OC this rig. It might be a little high, but I'll be safer that way.

Buying Intel next time...

To be honest might be the MOBO it's not a 990fx board a lot of boards boast FX but they are revised and aren't really made for it that could be the issue here

I hadn't thought of that. It could very well be the mobo. This isn't exactly top of the line and maybe the FX support isn't all it's cracked up to be, like you say.

I think I'll look around at some Intel hardware for my next upgrade.

It's at its default of 2200. I never change it until I've set my main clock speed/multiplier. There's a sweet spot/ratio that you have to follow, according to some guides that I read.

EDIT: According to CPU World, it's supposed to be 2600, but I'm having memory stability issues that I'm trying to resolve, so for right now it will stay at auto.

I knew it that isn't the default HT for that chip it's 2600 the mother board is the issue Proper Default NB and HT link speed
That motherboard has lowered the real value of that chip and may be overvolting it as well i only stuck with the boards that were made with the chips the other one's don't control them well
