Well now, been running Prime95 for about an hour now (I should add, while still using the PC, and everything I do still responds instantly).. Must admit, I'm very happy with these temps. Many posts I've found online to do with the i7-4xxx range of chips seem to show temps getting very high very fast.

Not sure what the ambient temp in this room is currently, if I had to guess I'd say about 20 degrees Celsius.. With my TT Water 3.0 set on it's "Extreme" profile, my two SP120's are sitting at 1700rpm (max is 2350) and they're hardly making a sound, the water temp is currently sitting at 37.7, and the six cores are fluctuating lightly around 60-64-56-60-62-61 (taking the most common readings). And this is all about as loud as my previous machine while it was just idling.

While I was playing with fan speed profiles, the fans dropped to just under 1000rpm and then slowly rose to 1400 for about 20 minutes, temps got up to the mid-to-upper 60 degree mark, with two cores hitting 70 degrees. Not much quieter but still very decent performance.

For some reason, one of them is consistently lower than the rest by about 10 degrees, but for all my Googling, this seems to be normal. All things considered, I don't think this is too bad at all. Looks like I've got lots of room before I need to start worrying about CPU temps.

[ed] Oh, and for the record.. Thanks to the Intel Turbo Boost tech thing, each core of my "3.6GHz chip" has been running at 4GHz the whole time..

I makes me feel kind of good knowing that I'm not the only one that makes silly little mistakes.
