I've gotten too old to enjoy the building any more, but I think I will enjoy it when finished. I always build it on the bench first. It's not really a bench, just a figure of speech.

They're called Golden because you have to spend more gold for health reasons.

The only thing good about the Golden Years is remembering your younger years.
When pain wasn't pain after a couple of days. When you wanted to do something and your body told you; No problem lets do it.
When your brain told you that something wasn't very smart to do but what the hell, lets try anyway.

Remember those days?

I remember them Jack, very well. I still try to go there sometimes and end up paying dearly for my efforts.

Time to update/upgrade my HTPC.

The Pentium Dual Core (E6500) just couldn't deal with the latest 1080p 60fps videos on YouTube (and other sources) so I tried installing the Core 2 Quad (former gaming setup) at stock speeds. Unfortunately, there's not enough airflow in the case so after 15 minutes or so of 1080p video it would lock up (works fine with 720p). It's not the CPU overheating, it's either the Northbridge or VRMs.

At any rate, seeing as how the E6500 has been in 24/7 use (it's never turned off) for nearly 5 years, I decided to bring the HTPC into the present day.

Here's what I bought:

ASRock H97M Pro4 (inexpensive 9-series board with the features that I want)

Intel Pentium G3258 (Haswell based dual core at 3.2GHz)

G.Skill DDR3-1333 2x2GB

These components will remain:

Sapphire HD 7750 (with passive cooling)

Samsung 830 128GB SSD

Antec 450 PSU

Windows 10 Tech Preview

I'm planning on doing a video of the install.

Nice little processor that one Kent. Very good value for money and I have no doubt it will be up to the job.
