Jeez that sounds like an odd fan problem Jeannie, and you've had two. I wonder if cutting and grinding the ears makes it happen?

I strongly like the black on the side fans too.

The black won't stay black long and could be helpful in determining the time to clean otherwise the white may go longer before screaming clean me?

The fans themselves aren't the problem; it was the fan power hub, the doohickey I plug the side fans into. The fan I broke was a fluke; I hadn't modified the ears.

My current case has black filters and, when they scream, "clean me!", roughly every three days, I run a portable vacuum over them; it's just takes a few seconds and it extends the interval between when I have to pull them and back blow them. I don't want the new filters to go too long between cleanings since that will reduce air flow.

It is isn't it? Very handy.

Its one thing of the things I miss about my HAF. That had a nice deep recess at the front to put things in. My current case has some aesthetic mesh that's a whole 1mm deep.

It's only occurred to me after reading through this thread that for the first time with cases, I still have the stock fans installed. They're 3-in-1 coloured led fans (Blue/Green/Red) and I haven't found any superior fans that have the same capability and I like being able to change the colours as the mood suits. I haven't quite gotten over shiny things yet

And the irony is I have enough spare fans for at least 4 cases...

This thread has been stirring up some dormant modding feelings

Addictive, isn't it? I've got plenty of spare fans for my old case, not to mention a spare PSU. I'm going to be vi9siting a friend next month who's husband is an IT tech/supervisor; I'll have to check to see if he would want to take the old case and its spare parts off my hands. I just don't want to have them cluttering up the place.

Thanks, Gary! I saw that drawer online several years ago and have been lusting for it ever since but never had had an empty 5.25" bay to put one in until now. Stupid as it sounds, I'm almost giddy over it. It's pretty slick; just push on the front to open it and push again to latch it.
Yes, it is a good idea a drawer, got that Scythe Kama Cabinet one with x2 USB 2.0 headers hidden in (might be by now discontinued). I'm still using it from my first case two years ago.

I keep all those junks (good or broken) parts for repair and replace broken parts and use some to recycle or future modding. Those parts are just too cheap to sell anywhere anyway!!

You're struggling a lot on air leaks and dusty ways!!!

PS: Nice job on those wiring harness!

Darned right I am. I live in a desert that is getting drier and dustier every year. I need to dust my house twice a day to keep the dust at bay (that doesn't mean I do ).

Okay crazy dust Lady. You made me do it.

I took all the panels (Front, Top, Sides off my Phanteks case looking for dust holes and found some. I could follow the little dust bunny tracks.
The two front fans were horrible. About 1/3 of the air the fans were drawing in was going around the filter not through it. Corrected.
Found some vents on the back that were drawing unfiltered air in instead of exhausting. I believe that was cause by the 6 radiator fans drawing the air in. Corrected.
I don't have a sand problem but I do have a cat hair problem.
Cat hair is a easy problem to solve as log as all the intake air is filtered.
Just clean the filters more often.

I inherited allergies form birth instead of money.
Because of the long cold winter the tree and grass pollen came all at once instead of on a staggered sequence.
