Good point, overkill is always better than underkill.

Ok yeah I'll stick with the desktop approach. Makes sense. Thank you.

Overkilling it is. :P

Yea I was thinking the AMD would be fine for it, considering I am not trying to make any huge server, as it will only be running one dedicated server at a time when a couple friends and I want to co-op a game, maybe with a couple randoms joining.

Any other tips or suggestions? Would it be possible to just run the dedicated server on windows 7/8 if I can't get the Linux to work out well? Obviously as long as the games support one of the other, but I feel that windows will be more friendly about it.

Well, you will need to check the website with the software for compatibility.

Yea.

Would the system run hot at all or no since it'd only be handling max 10 players at once as well as ONE dedicated server at a time for which we want to play? I'm just not sure if it'll run hotter than usual or not really since it's not handling much, and yeah I know it also depends on the game but, these aren't any demanding games. I just am looking out to see if I should get a better cooling system or stick with something basic that'll get the job done still.

As long as you use a good cooler, you are fine. This is a normal sized one for an atx case: Noctua.at - sound-optimised premium components "Designed in Austria"! Or this one for a small case: Noctua.at - sound-optimised premium components "Designed in Austria"!
