Might want to check out this video below then too. Not all that promising and seems like a trade off between architectures and overclockability, concidering I'm able to hit a safe and stable all core clock rate of 4.6GHz fully loaded 24/7 on my 3930K. Guess the only real advantage for me would be the extra 2 cores/4 threads on the 5960X, DDR4 RAM, and the ≈72 PCIe lanes (allocated up to, though I would use 64 in a 416 configuration) on the new ASUS WS board I'm looking at. But then again, these estimates might be on the conservative side.
Efficiency can overcome a lot of the clock speed. Paul and I played with that a while back with our cpus we had at the time. with the same clock speeds one chip beat the other by, about 1300 points as I recall.
according to Passmark the 5960X beats the 4960X by about 1600 points in Passmark. That can make up for a whole lot of clock speed differences. PassMark Intel vs AMD CPU Benchmarks - High End

The monster is doing well, no problems so far. I haven't ventured into over clocking yet as it's not really necessary at this point.

My new "thing" is live streams on Twitch.tv, sometimes with multiple streams open. Even with other support apps open (Chatty, Skype, TeamSpeak) the system is still super responsive.

When I did my own live stream, the old X9650 would run at 95 to 100% CPU utilization continuously. The 5960X monster barely gets over 20% on occasion.

I've installed my video editing software but haven't made a video yet. I guess the first video I make should be an update on the monster

My work schedule has finally returned to normal so I should have more free time for "extra-curricular" activities.

Hi, I built a system for the first time last year, and it closes down spontanously several times a week, which makes it unreliable for trading, which was what I built it for. I installed a new copy of Window7pro 64 bit onto the new build. The event logs show several different error types, but...
