That's something to go by....your 9450s score. I will start OCing tonight and see what I can get it to do.....

I don't know what I'm doing. The BIOS is a lot different than my P45 board. I am trying to figure it out. I almost have it "figured" haha

    Thanks for the info Skunk

I did a quick 3.0Ghz here is the Super Pi result
    Attachment 28582

Here's the best review I've seen yet. Looks like it's officially faster than the 920!

Tells us how the turbo on the 860 goes...that has really caught my eye...

The 860 is easily overclockable. I have hit 1Ghz over stock (3.8) easily.

@Zidane24 - It seems to hit about 3.3-3.5 with the turbo enabled.

    Very nice.

I love the Mushkin 1600 7-8-7-20 memory too.

    well......there you have it.

i7 architecture is a fair bit more efficient than the older ''core2'', superPI only stresses 1 core so its an excellent test of single threaded efficiency.

i7 & i9 are becoming more & more appealing daily.

Just an update on the P55-UD4P Mobo and Core i7 860 build.

Here's a bad thing about this board, the RAM slot closest to the socket is blocked by the fan on this heatsink. It's not even very big. You could use the slot but it's not the best design. There is room, you would have to remove the fan first then install the fan after putting the memory in. Bad design for a full size ATX board but I can deal with it, The board has been great so far.

The i7 860 is turning out to be a very nice chip. I could have gone with a 920 but like to try new things....I have hit 3.8Ghz easily on air cooling. I plan to go over 4 soon!

hmm...... that is a bit of a bummer.

but if your not going for a ''push / pull'' config i'd stick the fan on the other side of the cooler.

Yea, I guess I could put it on the other side and have it blowing out the back.

It's not as big a deal as it seems, I looked close and 4GB more Mushkin would fit.

Just a matter of taking those clips off. Thanks for the idea...I can't believe I never thought of that. I was planning on putting another fan on the other side anyway....so I will have to deal with it.

I love these Gigabyte boards because of how easy they make it to flash the BIOS. It's a 30 second task and backed up with dual BIOS so you don't have to worry about anything. It makes OCing easy too. (one you learn the settings, which I am doing now)

There are people getting almost 5Ghz out of this chip!!!!

''Dual BIOS'' is such an excellent addition, the dreaded BIOS flash has haunted me ever since it was an option... i killed my fist P35 with a flash, i stupidly flashed straight over my OC , dead board.

but many have lost their boards while following the process to a T, thousands of horror stories.

you loose the BIOS & you loose any chance to troubleshoot. Dual BIOS FTW!!.

lol.......grrr, i can feel the dreaded upgrade monster creeping up the back of my neck...

there's no doubt these i7's are clocking like BEASTS.... 4.7ghz @ 1.55v is far too much for practical use (though an 8.5 sec 1M superPI is ASTONISHING )

if you could get an i7 to 4ghz with HT enabled for 24/7 use, your laughing.... NOTHING will tap that power for years & years, couple that with a decent SLI or CFX config & you've got a pretty good ''Crysis Cruncher'' right there.

god.....how am i gonna break to the wife i need to upgrade (a completely new rig )
