Its easy to overclock the 1366 CPUs (and also 1567 with extended knowledge)
i wrote a little tutorial about it

[How-To] ‹bertakten mit RW-Everything auf Non-OC Boards (Alternative zu SetFSB)

its written in german but u can translate it maybe
but i will explain it in a few steps

1.
You need to find out which Clock Generator ur Motherboard uses
Mostly its a Winbond one or on Server Mothboards the IDTCV183-1A or Realtek 868M
Unfortunately there is no docu about the Realtek 868 so u could ask me about confidential papers in this case.

2.

Find out how the pinout of the clock generator looks like.
In case of the Supermicro X8DTi-F Motherboard its like that

As you see the pins FSA FSB and FSC are responsible for the BCLK of 133MHz Strap set 1

So there a 2 Options now
The soft and hard way

U could fix the strap by modifying ur clock generator to 166MHz --> its mostly stable, better than pure BCLK OC
Or u can change the BCLK by accessing the bitregisters of the clock generator

Step 1.

U have to find out the address in the SMBus of your clock generator
On ICH10R and W83667HG (Socket 1366) SMBus and W83667 (Socket 1156) there are 2 PPLs, 0x2D and 0x3D
0x3D is a clone of 0x2D so u have to apply the settings to 0x2D

NOTE: you have to access the clock generator by using WORD Block mode, byte access mode wont work

Now we modify the bits in Byte 17 to adjust the BCLK of the CPU, easy and simple

Lower value means higher BCLK

Everything is done already because the serverboards apply a high voltage so you dont have to adjust it

If you need higher voltages you can access them by using the Super I/O Chip registers in Non-GPIO Mode

If u want to save the values just change the last bit 7 in byte 0 of the clock generator 0x2D to 1 to save the settings in the SMBus and write them into the BMC Rom

NOTE:

You can find this SMBus addresses in ur Chipset or IOH/ICH docu, or extended explanations and registers in ES datasheets of Intel and AMI

Make sure that the settings work because they wont be resetted even after a CMOS Reset!!!!, its kind of factory mode, because usually this byte is read only

Unfortunately there is no way to change the Straps by software because these values are latched
the only way would be to modify the motherboard, video coming soon
NOTE:

Another way to increase the peformance of the cpu, is to let the CPU run in Freerun Mode

NOTE:

Software to access SMBus and Clock Generator

MS-DOS (with DOSSMB Driver), RW-Everything

You can also change the QPI Link Data Rate by using RW-Everything or DosSMB if you change some values in the I/O Space
More about that coming soon..

U can easily reach a frequency of 4GHz

Hi there!

Do you have the datashet for the RTM 868N-509?

No worries, doesnt matter the thread is old, it's actually a good question since it's been some time of using the overclocked CPU.

Speaking for myself here, I have and I had no problems so far using the CPU overclocked at 3,6 GHz.
No bluescreens, no high temperatures, no voltages above the max recommended ( my increased voltages are actually far from the max recommended ones ).

I mostly use my PC for video editing ( Sony Vegas, sometimes Adobe After Effects too ), I always used the " CPU only " render option because I had a bad GPU for rendering ( GT 630 4GB ) and I had no problems, now I stick to GPU + CPU render after I upgraded my GPU to MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr ii OC ( I only use the CPU only render when GPU + CPU fails rendering, which happens rarely ).

Sometimes I also use it for gaming and again no problems ( Far Cry 4, Battlefield 4 ).
If there are no problems in CPU only render there will obviously be no problems in gaming ( considering that when I use CPU only render the CPU's load is always above 90% and when gaming it's far from that ).

That's pretty much all about my case, if you have any other questions please let me know.

I also messaged my friend on Skype regarding your question, he might message me his answer of your question either on Skype or in this thread ( if he still remembers his account and password )

Thanks for the fast respond
Since the x58 pro (And ebay's are over priced) isnt in stock anymore, I'll probably go with a Tyan S7012 from ebay ($60) and go for a dual cpu setup, Only thing Im worried about is the mobo not being able to handle oc'ing them, going to do research and see.

You're right, I have just checked the price of MSI X58 Pro-E on ebay and indeed it's over priced now.
When I bought it back in 2015 August it was about $85 which is more than 2x cheaper than the price now.

Well, sorry but Im not familiar with Tyan S7012 and I dont know how well you could overclock in that case, cant help here.

Good luck.

MOBO for Intel Xeon E3-1235 LGA 1155
I'm looking for a Xeon E3-1235 cpu (LGA 1155 socket) to build a server, I read here in a post from almost a year ago that not all 1155 MOBOs can handle the Xeon cpus. Is this true? In Newegg they have normal 1155 boards and 1155 Server boards. Since normal boards are much cheaper and I won't...
