Overclock not being saved?

I just got my cpu fan installed today, so I tried overclocking with AMD Overdrive.

I read somewhere that someone got a stable 3.8GHz overclock at 1.45 volts so I tried that. Then, I restarted and did I short test with OCCT, while doing that I opened coretemp to see the frequency of the cores. They wouldn't go any faster that 3.2GHz, stock voltage. BUT, if I change the frequency and the core voltage and won't restart, during the test the frequency will reach 3.8GHz.

It seems like the overclock just doesn't want to stay. Anyone have this problem?

When I go into overdrive, I click the performance control tab, all cores is selected, drag the multiplier to 19x, then drag the voltage to 1.4568. I then hit apply and OK.
Is there a step I am missing or not doing correctly?

those overclock utility's are not a good way to overclock they are fine for a quick 200 MHz gain but for serious overclocking you need to know how to adjust Bios settings manually usually with AMD CPU's lower the HT frequency from auto to about 3 then set a memory divider by lowering the ram speed from auto to about 533 MHz make sure that you start out with proper stock voltages for Ram and CPU then raise your FSB until it won't post or becomes unstable back off a little then increase your memory voltage and CPU voltage just a little bit just be carefull as you increase voltages and monitor temps as you do this increase the FSB again and just play with the voltages and FSB to achieve your highest settings then once I hit my max with that i usually relax ram timings a little bit and then you can usually increase the FSB a little more there is a lot of little tricks to overclocking but it's important to have good hardware and good cooling to achieve good overclocking results
