You should be able to get a stable OC of about 3.3 GHz. There are several articles on how it has been done if you do a little searching.

    He's over here now.... GIGABYTE

And we've already told him about both the power supply and CPU cooler....twice :)

As to why he's overclocking that thing... Why do we overclock anything? More speed for less money

may i ask..............and dont take this the wrong way , but why are you overclocking the gpu on that rig? The only improvement you'll see is in benchmarks such as super pi
Maybe, maybe not. I saw improvements in games, not in super pi.... though I must admit I've never used super pi
im asking why he's overclocking it because looking at the rest of his spec its a waste of time and energy

you personally will see an improvement from ocing ingame , i can see that , your rig is completely differant to his , ocing my 9550 from stock to 4 gig gave me 15-20 fps in bad company 2 , because i was bottlenecked by the cpu before , this isnt the case with him , he wont notice any differance at all in ANYTHING by overclocking that cpu on that rig

I passed on my advice anyway , because ive owned and overclocked a Q6600 on a gigabyte board , if he wants to try thats fantastic , i was just giving him a few pointers....and now we have told him about his psu and cooler THREE times so he wont ever forget

It wasn't always that way as stated in my first post... https://www.sevenforums.com/overclock...tml#post790957. I still have my Q6600 system

Nothing wrong with the advice, and trust me, he's been told, even at the Gigabyte forums

OK that's quite a lot to take in, thanks so much everyone for their words of wisdom.

Here's some more information on my system, let me know if it would be useful to know anything else.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EG45M-DS2H.

My processor is G0 stepping as someone mentioned earlier.

My memory is two 2GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5.

I have an Akasa AK-P040FG7 400W power supply.

I have an APLUS CS-CURBIC case with two 180mm fans and one 120mm.
System break down, 400 watts isn't enough for overclocking or running any type of dedicated GPU.

Always use at least 4GB memory on a high performance system and use GSkill pc2 8800.

Without using a dedicated GPU you won't see many gains from overclocking this rig other than opening web pages and programs faster. You get what you pay for and nothing more.

    I had my Q6600 OC'd to 3.627GHz.
    Motherboard - Asus P5K.

I set my memory timings to 4-4-4-12, DRAM voltage at 2.1 (recommended for my DDR2 RAM), confirmed stable with Memtest86+.

My NB became stable with voltage set to 1.4

I used the H2O-220 liquid cooling system for the CPU (no lapping).
I also noticed some frequencies would not become stable. e.g. 3.6GHz - FSB 400, but setting the FSB to 402 (multiplier at 9) did become stable.
Max heat during torture test with Prime95 (v25.11) for 6 hours was 58C.
Sorry, I don't recall what I used for Vcore as I am running a new build now.

I ran this OC setup 24/7 for 18 months with no issues to speak of.
I still have the computer, just not using it currently.
