Overclocking a Core2 Quad Q6600

You should be able to get a stable OC of about 3.3 GHz. There are several articles on how it has been done if you do a little searching.

Maybe, maybe not. I saw improvements in games, not in super pi.... though I must admit I've never used super pi

im asking why he's overclocking it because looking at the rest of his spec its a waste of time and energy

you personally will see an improvement from ocing ingame , i can see that , your rig is completely differant to his , ocing my 9550 from stock to 4 gig gave me 15-20 fps in bad company 2 , because i was bottlenecked by the cpu before , this isnt the case with him , he wont notice any differance at all in ANYTHING by overclocking that cpu on that rig

I passed on my advice anyway , because ive owned and overclocked a Q6600 on a gigabyte board , if he wants to try thats fantastic , i was just giving him a few pointers....and now we have told him about his psu and cooler THREE times so he wont ever forget

Here's some more information on my system, let me know if it would be useful to know anything else.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EG45M-DS2H.

My processor is G0 stepping as someone mentioned earlier.

My memory is two 2GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 CM2X2048-6400C5.

I have an Akasa AK-P040FG7 400W power supply.

I have an APLUS CS-CURBIC case with two 180mm fans and one 120mm.

System break down, 400 watts isn't enough for overclocking or running any type of dedicated GPU.

Always use at least 4GB memory on a high performance system and use GSkill pc2 8800.

Without using a dedicated GPU you won't see many gains from overclocking this rig other than opening web pages and programs faster. You get what you pay for and nothing more.
