Assuming were using the same motherbards, Asus Rampage. I think its rather odd how some processors can be overclocked so much with so little volts where as others are a little voltage monster.

I consider my self lucky tat i can get above 4Ghz, i have seen on some forums people have hit the wall at only 3.8Ghz

Apparently every chip is unique in that way. No idea why. Also, I have upgraded from a 9800 GTX+ to a GTX 260, and there IS a performance increase with the newer cards. Some people say that performance stops increasing past the 8800 cards, but they say that because they don't see any obvious FPS increases. What they don't realize is that a more powerful card will take more punishment before the FPS would ever go down. My old 9800 GTX+ would slow down in the more intense scenes of certain games, but my new card either doesn't slow down, or slows down much less. But the maximum FPS in the calm scenes is the same with both.

Unfortunately, like a lot of components, it's luck of the draw in the manufacturing process.

I'm not too bothered about frame rates, at the end of the day, as long as it will lock at 27FPS and stay smooth i don't care. Reason being is our eyes only see at 25FPS.

About the components + batch numbers. Would the processors in batch ****** be exactly all the same spec, as they were built all at the same time, with the same chemicals etc etc?

On the other-hand. I have set voltage to "Auto" (I kept getting BSOD) and running at 4.2Ghz and i'm at 1.432v when idle and at around 54*C (With Htt Off) and 1.44V when i'm using 100% processor. when temps around middle 80's.

Unfortunately the i7's do run extreamly hot.

i disagree on I7's running hot.. i have 4 in the house that run quite a bit cooler then whats your getting. All mine are overclocked a little , but it takes trial and error to get the right combo. Keep at it, you will figure it out.

Your System Specs don't seem to indicate that you have any form of liquid cooling; in my experience, any quad-core will run hot without that. That's what burned out my last CPU (Core 2 Quad with fan only), and it wasn't even overclocked...

I'm not sure where exactly you're getting your information, but what's clear is this: you really should spend some time boning up on overclocking from a reputable site. As it stands, you have no idea what you're doing, nor what you're talking about. I really don't say this to be harsh, or mean, or rude. Honestly. I'm just being blunt because you've made, and continue to make, serious errors based on "facts" you have which are dubious at best; at worst, flat out wrong.

To suggest that we can't see above 25 fps is absurd. Please don't bother linking us to sites that tell us what movies and tv fps are, we've all seen it. What those sites fail to take into account is that movies are a constant games are not. Go to any graphics card review site on the planet and notice what they say about 30fps vs 60 fps. Ask any of your friends what the difference between 30 and 60 fps is. It's very noticeable, because 25 fps borders on unplayable.

No two components are ever going to be the same, no matter what, ever. It's luck of the draw. You can try and order from batches that are known to be good overclockers, but because there are no guarantees, you've got to deal with what arrives at your door.

You need to stop setting voltage to auto unless you're running at stock speeds. The board is pumping too much juice. i7's DO NOT run extremely hot; just the opposite, they run quite cool, especially when compared to an i5. Again, I have to ask where you're getting your information because it's going to cause you to ruin your cpu.

50C idle 80C full load. For an i7? That's insane. i7's run cooler than i5's and my i5 runs at load what yours idles at. Clearly, you're not doing this correctly.

On the subject of "how many FPS can we see" ... there is no definite answer simply because our eyes do not see "frames," but rather a continuous stream of light and motion. And yes, the threshold of FPS before we can't tell the difference is way way way WAY above 25.

    Where's the hardware?

That's a very misleading thread 'Title' you've got.

As the others have already said, too many volts on yours. Probably also explains why your fans are running at full speed all the time, busy trying to keep it cool.
