Sporadic Problems Resuming from Standby - Two Restarts Required

Hi - I have occasional problems resuming from standby. It doesn't happen all the time; there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. When I try to resume from standby, I will see a bright back lit monitor. I then have to turn the computer off manually via the power button. When the computer comes back on, the screen will say Resuming from Standby. Then it will go back to the bright back lit screen. I then have to manually turn the computer off again and this time when I restart I get the option to "Delete the restoration data and resume with Windows restart" (wording not exact but remembered as best as I could). I select this option and now it starts fine, no problems. I know that I could just turn off my computer and restart it each time I want to use it but I like the convenience of just waking it up from standby (much quicker) when I want to use it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Check the Performance log to see what driver or app is hanging wake up. Rightclick Computer>Properties, click WEI score link, then Advanced Tools.

Most often this is due to a Diskplay Driver, so update yours to see if it helps. Then:

Hi - Thank you so much for your reply. I went to the WEI Score, Advanced Tools and then selected the option that leads to the Event Viewer - I'm not sure if I'm in the right spot. I looked at the "Diagnostics Performance" folder and there are numerous warnings for Standby Performance Monitoring and some for Boot Performance Monitoring. However, I'm not sure what to look for to know what the warnings mean or how to interpret them. I also have downloaded the recent Display Drivers but I know that I have previously tried to upgrade the Display Driver to fix this issue and it has still occurred (this driver is more recent so maybe it will help). Also, I had this same issue on my previous computer that was also running Windows 7 (upgraded to that OS on that one). I haven't yet tried the steps in the links you have provided but I figured I'd check with you on the first steps you mentioned. Thanks so much for the help you are giving.

You are looking for errors which repeat in the log. Then Google some of the text and the ID numbers to see how others have resolved them. This is how you troubleshoot these.

If you had the same prob on previous computer, it is likely a program you're running or some tweak you're applying - which will always come back to bite you in Win7. Use the tools I linked and study the Performance and Event Viewer>Custom>Admin logs to find the cause. We can help you further as you proceed.

Hi - Thank you for your reply. I updated my Display Driver and I set Driver Verifier to run. However, I don't know enough about the Driver Verifier (even after looking at the link you set) to know what else to do. Also, I tried to run the Windows Performance Toolkit but the installer just hung. I don't know if that's because Driver Verifier is running in the background or not. One thing I was able to do was save the event logs from the event viewer (I attached a text file version of this). I don't know if you can tell anything helpful from this or not. I don't know what to do next. Thank you for helping me!
