hey so i stopped messing with the memtest because its annoying me and didnt get it working right. i did the memory diagnostics tool through windows and it showed no errors after the start up. for some reason now, before its never shown up but after running the test it is, i have the action center flag in my tool bar thing saying that i had a device error or driver error on 12-24-10. might have been my brother using my computer because i would have remembered it. this is what its telling me:

Stop (blue screen) error caused by a device or driver

You received this message because a hardware device, its driver, or related software has caused a stop error, also called a blue screen error. This type of error means the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from potential data corruption or loss. In this case, we were unable to detect the specific device or driver that caused the problem.

is there anything i should do? or now that its running correctly im ok? thanks for all your help guys.
I've never had any problems with Memtest. Did you d/l the iso, and burn it to disc? Does your Windows 7 disc boot when you use it? In any case. I wouldn't worry about the error. It was 3 weeks ago, and as you say, everything is working ok. Just keep it in the back of your mind. BTW, the built in memory test isn't nearly as comprehensive as Memtest. A Guy

    i got the memtest+

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)

then i unzipped it and burned the .iso to a disc. i ran it on my cd-rom first to see if it popped up and it did, i know it should read it automatically and do the test but it didnt so i put it to read my cd-rom first on boot sequence and still had the same problem. like you said anyways it seems to be better now that you brought the 2 gig ram part to my attention and i pretty much just reset the ram into the slots.

yeah when i used the boot cd for windows it ran it fine, the 1 and only time ive reformatted. well i guess id consider this solved since my problem is gone even though im unsure what caused it. thanks a lot guys for helping me out especially A Guy

hey so i was looking through my documents and i found this notepad, i guess my brother saved it when my computer crashed?

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48
    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 3b
    BCP1: 00000000C0000005
    BCP2: FFFFF960001434AB
    BCP3: FFFFF88006875080
    BCP4: 0000000000000000
    OS Version: 6_1_7600
    Service Pack: 0_0
    Product: 256_1

Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Windows\Minidump\122410-17394-01.dmp
    C:\Users\Danny\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-36519-0.sysdata.xml

If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline:
    C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt

not sure if that helps find out why it crashed to begin with, also i still have the dump file:
    122410-17394-01.dmp
for some reason i couldnt access it in the folder, im assuming because it had the little mini lock on the outside of the folder, but i copied and pasted it to my desktop and now i dont know what to do with it that i can try to open it. i see random programs to download online but i wanted to ask here first before i go do random things im unsure of. thanks

edit: the other file "WER-36519-0.sysdata.xml" for some reason is gone off my computer and i cant find it.

i know this is a windows 7 forum and sorry for bringing hardware issues into here, if thats not ok just let me know.

i found out that when i went into bios it shows dimm slot 1 and 3 at 2048, enabled slot 1 2048 enabled slot 3-, total memory size 2048. so somehow my slot 3 is disabled?
this isnt mine but looks pretty much the same minus the extra stick of ram:
    GA-X58-UD3R Won't Enable 3rd DIMM Slot - Gigabyte - Motherboards-Memory
    any ideas?
