Need help w W7 folder layout issue

    Hi all,

Here's the issue/problem I'm having. I want to set different default folder views for the main "Pictures" folder and its sub folders. For example, I want the main Pictures folder to open by default with the small icons view. And then I also want all the sub folders to open with the large icon view.

But the problem is when I change the view of the picture folder to small icons, all the sub folders are also reset to small icons. And vice-versa, when I change one of the sub folders to display large icons, the main Pictures folder is also reset to large icons (which I don't want).

Can someone help me figure out how to get these folders to retain the view settings I want?

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

    Peter

Check to see if the box is checked to apply settings to sub-folders. This may work. It's an idea.

Thanks for the idea. The box was unchecked by default but it didn't work, however, it gave me an idea to try something else which partially worked.

What I did was to change to the folder type for "My Photographs" to "General Documents." Then I could set that view differently from the view of the folders below which were still set at Photo type folders with that tic box unchecked. This worked for retaining the different settings but only when working directly with the folders themselves. I see now that the problem is with the "Library" system. The library system doesn't seem to allow different view settings within various folders grouped into a single library. The absence of ability to customize this is, imo, a huge defect in design for this new library system of organization.

I thought the library system could be very useful and helpful in certain situations but it also seems to add a layer of possibly unnecessary complexity and confusion to the organizational layout. I haven't decided yet whether it is worth keeping the library thing operational or not (assuming there is a way to disable it). I guess I'll just give it some more time to see if it turns out to be more useful than not.

In the meantime, if anyone comes up with a way to change and retain different folder views for various folders within a single library, I'd be most interested in hearing the details.
