    Windows 7 memory leak?

    Hi there,

This is maybe the wrong section, but I did not know which one to pick:

I experience issues when I open directories with big HD movies in it (around 4-10GB). The media player loads fast (VLC, KMP, WMP) but the video never starts.
After 5-10 secs, my computer starts to run very slowly, I figured out that it was caused by page faults. Indeed, my memory usage goes from 10% to 97% (I have 4Gb, x64 WIN7) in 10secs.

Even though none of the process in the task manager shows a usage of 3.5Gb, I figured out that killing Explorer.exe releases the memory instantly.

This problem avoid me to play HD movies without killing explorer which is very anoying...

Does any one knows how can I deal with this issue?

    Thank you!

What video codecs have you installed? That would be your problem most likely.
    That or antivirus software.

Try disabling the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. It's caused problems for me in the past with media files and disabling this service solved it.

It's used to share media between things like an Xbox 360 and Media Player.

    Hi

Captain: I'm gonna check your paper on windows memory, we'll see if it helps.

Concerning media sharing, never used it, but it is worth trying.

YEsterday, I let the computer alone and after 3 minutes, everything was back to normal. Maybe it's due to thumb nail generation or something? Cause there is the green progress bar (in the address bar) that slowly reach 100% (the last 5% are the longest to complete).
Do you have any idea of what explorer is doing?

And about page file size: never touched it

    Thanks!
