Unable to BOOT Windows MBR repair does not solve the Problem

Hi People!!

I have been a member of this forum and most often I have found a solution by just searching but today I have a problem which I have not been able to find a solution for, therefore I am listing my problem.

I have win7 installed on a desktop since 3 months now, it was working fine till yesterday evening but don't know what happened, it was loading windows.

Basically what is happening is that it is booting fine, then the windows logo comes and after that I get a black screen with mouse cursor, whereas it was supposed to have the login screen.

Now I had this same problem 3 months back with the same computer but then I was unable to solve it using the MBR repair commands and so I formatted the drive C of my computer then.

Now I am determined not to format the DRIVE C, so I went to the command prompt using system repair tools from the DVD and went into DISKPART. When I selected disk 0 which is the only disk installed and entered detail disk this is what I got:

Now I found that the system reserved partition has somehow claimed Drive Letter C after maybe a power failure. Now I think the problem would be solved if I could somehow remove C letter from the System Reserved partition and assign it back to Volume 2.

I later on checked on the recovery files that in my computer the DRIVE C is the actual system reserved partition which is supposed to be hidden and DRIVE D is the one which holds the actual windows installation.

I have also the information on VOLUME 1 when I selected DISK 0 and then selected VOLUME 1 and entered detail volume, I got the following result:

No Default Drive letter = No
Shadow Copy = No
Offline = No
Bitlocker Encrypted = No
Installable = No

Now I changed the attributes 1,2 and 3 to Yes think it would solve my problem but it didn't.

I would also like to know why this has happened, I think this is due to power failure but why is the system reserved partition showing as C.

Please help, I have tried to search and fix the MBR as well but to no avail, I don't want to format my PC again.

I have managed to remove the drive letter of the system reserved partition and assign letter C to the D drive. But then I got a message on rebooting BOOTMGR missing press CTRL+ALT+DEL. Then again I have tried to repair the bootmgr by BOOTREC/fixboot, this removed the BOOTMGR missing error but got me back to where I started, that is, a BLACK screen after windows 7 logo.

I am still not able to get the LOGIN SCREEN don't know why? Please help.

Why make these random changes rather than simply booting your Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD to run Startup Repair to repair your MBR? System Repair Disc - Create

Any commands that would work are already automated along with dozens of other tests in Startup Repair. So running them yourself randomly and incorrectly will only ruin your System.

Make sure 100mb Sys Reserved partition is still marked Active: Partition - Mark as Active

Then Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

If this fails, try setting WIn7 partition active to cut out the Sys reserved partition and write the MBR into WIn7 directly by running Startup Repair x3.

If this fails, try correcting your drive letters which you may have messed up because DISKPART was listing them incorrectly: Moving Win7 Partition to Another Drive
