I am having the exact same issue as the author of the thread. Five years and no solutions? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have ran virus scans, ran multiple programs to clean up the computer and start windows with minimal applications running in the background. Nothing has helped. Does anyone here have a clue?
I hazard a guess and say your particular problem is in relation to a recent Windows update that is in preparation for Windows 10 that is known to cause high HDD activity as it is scanning things, sorry I do not recall the KB number off hand and I did try looking but not found it as yet.
