    Computer slow after startup

I'm having trouble with my computer's performance after it starts up. The hard drive is almost constantly active and during these periods the computer is very slow. I will try to type word documents and search the web and the text that i type will be behind. I have turned off superfetch and indexing. I have checked for viruses and malware. I even restored my computer to the factory image, and nothing helps. Eventually, whatever service/process is slowing my machine down stops and the computer works fine, but this can be hours after my computer is booted up.

I have a Dell Studio 17 with an Intel core i7 processor and 4gb of ram. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably just routine, but lets be sure
    Scan with the anti virus
Dowload and run malwarebytes, make a full scan after you update. If this is not what you already refer to

If all is negative and I sure that it will be
    Boot with a clean boot

I have already scanned with Malware Bytes. I just did a clean boot and it didn't help. I still hear the system continue to run and it is slowing it down. Even as i type it, the text doesn't display on the screen as i type. It displays a few seconds after I type a word. All along Ive thought it was a windows process causing this, but i'm not 100% sure.

Open the Task Manager and view the active processes to see if something is hogging the CPU. Also, in the performance monitor you can determine what is causing the disk activity. hope this helps!

    Tackaman,

And what Anti-Virus, anti-spyware, firewall software do you have running?

You might consider using Process Explorer to see what's causing your disk activity. This free utility has been described as task manager on steroids and it doesn't need to be installed if you run it "live".

I was using McAffee internet security as my virus/firewall software. I uninstalled it to see if that was the problem, but that didn't fix the issue. I just installed a trial version of kaspersky and it's still doing the same thing. I've run a full virus scan and I've run a full scan with malware bytes and they find nothing.

Nothing seems to be clogging up my resources which is why I can't figure this out. I'm using Mozy home backup to backup all of my files, but I even uninstalled that for a few days and that didn't fix the problem. I also turned off windows updates and killed all of the dell processes and that didn't fix the problem either. I'm beginning to wonder if it's something with my hardware. Maybe a bad driver? I've tried to update all my drivers, but they are all using the most up to date version.

Attached is a screen print of my processes (part of them)

The security software which interferes the least with Win 7 and is excellent and is free is the software which many of us, namely, Microsoft Security Essentials:
Microsoft Security Essentials Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection

Use this program to determine what is being started on your computer.
    AutoRuns for Windows

This program is also the best in its category, free, written by Mark Russonivich, will allow you to disable and/or delete any thing being started.

    Well?

I am having the exact same issue as the author of the thread. Five years and no solutions? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have ran virus scans, ran multiple programs to clean up the computer and start windows with minimal applications running in the background. Nothing has helped. Does anyone here have a clue?

You can try to load defaults in BIOS/clear CMOS.
