Windows 7: Can't run Windows Experience Index

I ran successfully the Windows Experience Index (WEI) soon after installing Win 7 64 bit on a new computer. I tried running it again after making some hardware performance changes. It started to run, but gave a warning that I was on battery power and stopped? This is a desktop machine. If I go to the Power savings section I see what appears to be settings for a laptop?? It seems that my computer is seen as a laptop. How can I change that? Now I don't even have the option of running the program. I ran SFC and all is well, I deleted all the files in C:\windows\performance\winsat\datastore and that didn't fix it.




It just seems that my desktop is seen as a laptop?? Any way to change that, and where??

Are you plugged into a UPS?

Are you by any chance connected to a UPS? There were some reports of Vista (RIP) plagued machines reporting this sort of nonsense. If so just temporarily remove all connections between your UPS and Desktop then run the WEI to see what happens.

I disabled the shut down program, and I could run the WEI. It ran, but doesn't display anything???

Not sure why you had to disable the shut down program to run the WEI (what is the shut down program anyway?). Do you mean that there are no scores on the WEI rating or is it just a completely blank screen?

It is possible that your machine still thinks it is running on battery power because WEI only works properly if it thinks it is running on mains power. Did you get that problem sorted out?

You could also try restoring the files deleted from C:\windows\performance\winsat\datastore if they are still in your recycle bin.

Sorry, the program I shut down is the one for the UPS that automatically shuts down the computer during a power failure. I was away from the computer for a while and when I came back and woke it up there was a rating, but it didn't show the different areas it tested, just the slowest one of 5.9 for the HD.

I think that's normal.. The WEI is based on the lowest score of all your components.

To be honest the WEI is a piece of **** that doesn't help in any way. But never mind, at least you got it to work. Now get on with a bit of gaming or whatever....

I can run WEI on my HP laptop running Win 7 Home; it gives the total score but shows none of the details. The log shows that the scores were generated (also that they dropped after I updated the NVIDIA 8600m GS driver).

Can anyone suggest how to get Windows to actually properly display the score details?
