Repair Install shuts down and doesn't startup again

Hi there,

I've been trying to do a system REPAIR INSTALL, following the tutorial. My system goes through the process up to the point where it is supposed to be transferring the settings. At that point it shuts down and does not start up again. The next process if it did start up would be to put in my installation key.

Before trying the Repair Install I tried the STARTUP REPAIR and went through that 3 times; it finished the third time with no errors. The first time I ran it though, it found this error:

Root cause found:
Bugcheck c000021a Parameters = 0xfffff8a00450e330, 0x0
0xffffffffe00000001, 0x100540
Root critical file is corrupt

Repair action File repair failed; error code = 0x2

Repair action System restore failed; error code = 0x1f

Repair action system files integrity check and repair failed;
error code = 0x40

Any suggestion what to do next? I was seriously trying to avoid doing a complete reinstall if possible.

Start your computer with the DVD in tray to see if it will resume Repair. Doubtful.

Next boot the DVD into Repair, accept any offered Repair, boot back in to Startup Repair if necessary to try running it a few times. It might have enough of an installation to repair.

If not, see if you can copy out your files if you failed to back them up already: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then wipe the HD to clean reinstall Win7: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Thanks for the suggestion Bare Foot. It seems I am now unable to log into Windows at all, it goes into a loop of either trying the repair windows (I've run that a couple of times), or "start Windows as normal" option (doesn't work, it tries to initiate but then shuts down after offering to send a message to MS about the problem). So, I'm unable to try the System File Checker that you pointed me to.

Yep I tried that a few times already, but alas it has not worked in the end.

I had already backed up everything because I knew something was wrong.

Okay I have decided to do the complete clean-install. I've reformatted the HD, and the system install starts up and appears to begin installing. Then at some point it shuts itself down and does not start up again.

This is what I see happening:

Process goes through "copying Windows files" (check)
Expanding Windows files (check)
Installing features (check)
Installing updates (check)
restarts
****white on black window shows Windows 7 loaded twice)****
Completing installation
restarts
Windows can not configure on this computers hardware
shutdown

Hello again,

I have followed the tutorial for optimizing the system for clean install. Then, followed the tutorial for a clean install of Windows 7. (I didn't re-burn the ISO file, as I have to download it again; I am a student and had to get the files again through my college. I thought though that the original disk was fine as it was successfully installed before on both my computers, and finding all my passwords etc. to do that was very time consuming.)

This is what happened; it went through the process of installation - got as far as the final restart, shut down and did not come back up.

Since the Windows 7 install didn't work, I installed Windows Vista, just to see if that works, as a way to see if it is perhaps the HD itself. And, Eureka, it installed! So I guess it was my Windows 7 installation disk. Lesson learned.
