Cloning Partitions - is this ok?

If I have two partitions C and D can I make an image of those and then place those into a large C and D on a new drive?

So if C drive is currently 20 GIG
and D drive is currently 40 GIG

can I prepare a SSD drive, (doing everything recommended in a previous post: Has anyone installed a SSD Drive before? ) and in the new drive create

    C drive 50 gig
    D drive 60 gig

can i simply just put old C into new C and old D into new D ?

    Thanks!

You don't say what brand HD but WD and Seagate have great free Acronis apps for cloning over to new HD's that would be worth trying.

You can choose Auto to have them keep the same size proportionately or Manually to repartition to the target HD as it clones.

    You could also use Clonezilla.
