Power management - Sleep and hibernate idle Timeout

I have a question,
In win 7, if i set the hibernate idle timeout to 10 mins. Then i put the system to sleep. After 10 minutes, will the system enter hibernate mode sequentially? Or does it wake up entirely to windows desktop screen, then only it goes into hibernate mode?
