    Secunia and Java Updates anyone?

I have Secunia installed and it informed me of various updates which I did and seems to have worked fine.

One required update was to install Sun Java JRE 1.6.x / 6.x - which I did, and after a week Secunia is still telling me that this hasnt been installed when it has. If I run the .exe im told that "this has already been installed"

So, how come the false positive or was Java not really installed?

    Any ideas, thanks!

there probably are some residual files left over that secunia is detecting. you can try this little utility:

    RaProducts

i've used it for a couple years and it works great.

    Lister,

What happens is that with Java, quite often the old must be deleted first.

I've been there and here is how I solved the problem.

With Control Panel | Programs and Features
    I uninstalled ALL java entries.

I did not install anything. I just waited until a program complained about needing java and let the latest and greatest be installed that way.

Secunia will tell you where the old version is located. The easy was is with JavaRa as suggested. When the new Java is installed, it does not remove the older versions, and that is what Secunia is detecting. A Guy

Glad you got it sorted, good help kword88. Secunia reports the older versions because they are still insecure. I hope you get 100% now :)

yeah thanks for all the advice, in fact it has now done the same with firefox in that it is reporting that it hasnt been updated when it has. Does anyone know how to remove the older version of firefox or the residual files?

    Thanks!

Click on the community link in the results. Chances are you will see a lot of prople discussing it. That is not uncommon, there is no "older version" to be removed, no doubt a false positive by Secunia. A Guy
