Backing Up My Work
Hi,
I had been using floppies to 'save to' as I make changes. Since the new system doesn't have a floppy drive I am learning to use CD-RWs.
So I backed up all My Documents (Folders with files) to the CD-RW. Now I have made a change to a file and am trying to back it up supposedly to re-write the one that is already backed up on the CD-RW.
I am using the 'standard' right-click on file and 'send to' option "Files Ready to be Written to the Disc". Then I right-click on that file and click 'Burn to disc'. It was telling me I didn't have administrator permission - so I attempted to change attributes on the file on the CD-RW but it wouldn't let me. I researched and made sure I had ownership priveleges on the file on my hard drive.
So now I get the warning - 'files you are trying to burn have the same names as files already on the disc. If you continue, files on the disc will be replaced by the new files.' That's OK.
I checked the CD-RW to see if the new file is there. It did not overwrite the original file. The updated file is listed at the bottom and when I check the attributes it says read only - which means to me that it also won't be overwritten??
Every time I do an update to a file it is going to put a completely new file on the disc. Is that right?
Also, since I am the 'administrator' how do I grant permission?
ALSO, FYI, I did the original backup using Cyberlink software. Does that make a difference?
