I bought RAM and I'm very happy to have an OS that actually uses it unlike XP which saves it for.... I don't a rainy day I guess. I find 7 to use about 1/3 of my available RAM same as Vista. I want my OS to do this, this is the reason why I bought RAM. As I load apps I don't notice RAM usage increasing as much as you would in XP.

7 using RAM sound like a typical XP user.

I've found the usage in 7201 to be better than previous builds. I normally have nothing remaining of my 768MB

I have 2 Gb of ram and i only use msn, AVG antivirus program and the internet and it use 740 mb of the ram

    this is 32-bit

if i use Windows vista ultimate 64-bit and use the same program then i use about 700-800 mb of the ram..

sorry i'm not good in english but i hope u can understand me :)
I do't understand. Why don't you want things to run in memory. If your programs were running through caching of the hard drive then things would run really slow. Memory (and all of it if possible) is where you want you OS and applications to run from. Doesn't make sense to have 2GB of RAM where its not being used, right? Every runs faster in RAM. The key is that when an application closes that the OS is smart enough to move the use of that freed up RAM to something else.

I have 8 gigs and it has 23% used. Most of that is being used by prefetch as I only have a couple gadgets and Firefox open. I like it as when I open a program that I use often it is there in a flash. If the ram is needed for other things, say opening several virtual machines it unloads prefetch and lets the programs use the ram. Not a problem.

I had a similar problem... With Vista and Win 7 my RAM use was way higher than with XP. Here are the numbers after startup: XP=200MB, Vista=800MB and Win7=500MB. That's after I had tweaked them a bit. Then I added AVG8.5 on Win7 and it went up to 650MB. My advice is to turn off all the frills and tweak your performance settings... see where you're at then...

Yeah I should have added that I have 2GB RAM which seems to correlate very nicely with your values...

ok, i know every1 is gonna bash me her up nicely but Windows 7 does eat a little to much RAM.......... SO I use this good 'RAM cleaner" OK DON'T BASH ME! PLZ! THIS RAM Cleaner doesn't use the traditional **** RAM cleaner's method (that is hogging up ur system RAM so it will page every **** in Hard disk and make your system SLUGGISH then let go of your system's RAM then you experience ultra laggines) ...

This 1 uses a different way thats very efficient... PLZ READ THE DESCRIPTION of this program on his web page b4 u fight with me....

    CleanMem v.1.4.2 | PcWinTech.comâ„¢

Description is at the bottom of the page

PS: By default this thing sets up a schedule to auto so its job in 30 mins... BUT if you want to force a RAM clean up with this prog, go to cmd (with admin rights)> then type 'cleanmem'... usually I do this b4 a shutdown as it helps me cut my shutdown

Not sure what's so bad about 800mb, right after startup mines using about 998mb but ive got 4GB total so its probably just using whats availible to it.
