Service NlaSvc is using too much CPU

Hi averyone,

svchost.exe is using too much cpu, almost 50%, i checked it with Process Explorer (from Microsoft Sysinternal Suite) and i found that it's NlaSvc Service is causing that, i can't stop this service because it's an essential windows service.

I uninstalled somes softwares wich i suspected to cause this : antivirus, nokia ovi suite, riva tuner, adsl autoconnect, nothing changed.
I upgraded my drivers : lan, sound, graphics, nothing changed.
i'm sure that i have absolutely no virus.

Any help?

Hi Nassim,

NlaSvc stands for Network Location Awareness Service, and it belongs to the NetworkService Group, the members of which are grouped together and run under the same svchost.exe process.

The following images show that service on my system. The first image shows it together with the related ones (same PID). The second shows the current CPU status for the services. Most of the time, these are 00 as shown here, but occasionally they show some activity, although generally speaking not higher than 05.

Is your network wired or wireless?

Here's what I see with Process Explorer:

One thing that I have noticed is that I only have a thread count of 15 at the time of the snip, whereas you have 27 which is nearly double.

Can you repost the equivalent image, this time expanded to show all the threads. I'm interested in the entries which show a figure in the CPU column (if blank, this indicates that the current CPU usage for that item is zero).

My wireless netwok card is disabled, i use my wired Realtek card to connect to my modem.

i'll try the clean boot thing.

every 10~20 seconds a new thread is created and it uses 20->30->40->50%->0% cpu and another one is created. it's always the same thread with the same parameters.

I've just been watching mine for the last 5 minutes or so. It briefly went up to 16 threads and then dropped back down to 15 again. At no point did it show any activity in the CPU column.

Have you checked for an updated driver for your network adapter?

yep, i updated it today, it didn't solve anything.

OK. Reboot and open Task Manager in the Networking tab. Ensure that you do not have any browser windows or your email client open. What sort of activity are you seeing?

No activity att all, it begins when using internet connecion firefox or messenger or chrome or torrent or anything else using internet connection.

It seems like that i have to reinstall 7 to solve this problem.
