When trying to open the event viewer or task manager I keep on getting the message

"MMc could not create snap-in"

I Have done a system file check I allso down loaded a reg fix but when I select merge all that happens is file opens instead of running.Does any one Know the registry fix for this problem

Hello Jimmy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It looks like the same thing in the location in this tutorial except for those MMC snap-ins instead. You can download and merge the REG file below, then restart the computer to apply to hopefully enable those MMC snap-ins the same way as in that tutorial.

Thanks Brink for your prompt reply
As I wrote before I must have a reg problem as I down loaded the reg file & named it MMC,reg but it did exactly the same when I pressed on merge it just opened the said file instead of running it ?I am baffled by this

When you download the .reg file above, you would just double click on it and approve to merge it normally. No need to rename it.

Does it have a .reg file extension (may need to unhide to see) at the end of the downloaded file?

If it doesn't, then rename the the file to add .reg at the end, and try double clicking on the download again.

If it does, then check in Default Programs to make sure that the .reg file extension is set to have it's "Current Default" program as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try double clicking on the download again.

It did the registry change but has not resolved the problem

This could be a .NET issue. Try cleaning up installed versions of .NET, then download and install afresh. Here are the links.

When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603"

Uninstall .NET Framework & ran the .NET Framework cleanup tool. Reinstalled .NET Framework 3.5
Still not solved the problem?

Did you restart the computer afterwards?

If so, then you might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you had this issue may be able to help.

Hi Brink
I have reinstalled windows 7 a few times and still have the same problem so I think it maybe a faulty
Installation disk so a system restore would not solve the problem

I purchased it from tesco supermarket prior to its launch.They are a legitimate company so I dont think it is pirated.Probably a manufactures fault.Its the solving of it that is the problem as you already know. You guys have given a lot of time to this problem & I thank you for that

Hello,

A quick question. Did you try to run SFC /SCANNOW ? Also create a new User Account and see if it works there. Sometimes it used to resolve such issues.

Sometimes WMI corruption can cause this. Copythe below code to Notepad. Go to File > Save as > Wmi.bat

Then Right Click on the Wmi.bat file and Run as administrator.

Jimmy,

If this is a retail (not OEM) copy of Windows 7, then you could borrow a friend's retail Windows 7 Home Premium installation DVD to install it on your computer while still using your product key number. This will let you know if it was a issue with your Windows 7 copy or not.
