On your System Specs you show you're using XP Pro. If you really are using XP Pro Black Viper also has tweaks for 32-bit with SP3 and 64-bit with SP2 (Popular Content, 3rd item down.)

They do not work. You won't get any better performance then you do now.

The Black Viper web site has very complete information about each service and its dependencies. I cut 4 seconds (17%) off my Win 7 x64 start up using the information on Black Viper's by totally disabling several unneeded services some of which were there just to collect information for MS.

There are no unneeded services on Win7 that will not cause complications if disabled. It has all services not needed at Startup set to Manual fast triggers.

Those of us who tried Vliting it for performance during beta quickly found out that there is no performance to be gained by turning off important networking and security services, just problems, so the only need for Vlite is to size it down (minus language and driver packs) for netbooks.

This is not XP or even Vista. This is a pefectly balanced, stripped down OS that has itself become the Black Viper.

To improve performance, upgrade hardware or get a cleaner install without any 3rd party tweaks or optimization whatsoever.

maybe the default microsoft service configuration is all cool and groovy for everybody (debatable), but as soon as you start installing third-party drivers and software, it won't be long until you start adding bloaty junk to the system.

trouble is there are so many third-party services out there, that it's difficult to give you a list of what you can safely get rid of.

msconfig would be a good place to start >> services >> hide all microsoft services.

you have to be real careful, you could find that things don't work properly once you start mucking about.

if you can't stop yourself from tweaking, be sure to disable things one at a time, and test test TEST!

This is a short list of 15 of Services that I have no need for on my Win 7 computer. I have many more Services disabled and as many as 8 of them were running when I disabled them that had been running since start up. I'm not encouraging the disabling of services in Win 7 its just that I can not see the sense of leaving the potential for dozens of unneeded services running in the background.

    Remote Registry
    Routing and Remote Access
