    Taskkill

I have tried several time to kill the process for a particular program with an elevated command prompt of C:\\Windows\System32>taskkill /pid 704 /f. Each time it claims to have been successful, but the process remains regardless. Am I doing something wrong, or is taskkill?

I thought that you could just go to task manger, right click on the process and then end process.

You can, but sometimes a stubborn process requires Taskkill.

Sysinternal's Process Explorer can terminate processes and it doesn't require installation on your computer.

I already have Process Explorer, but I've had no better luck with it than with the Task Manager when killing processes.

seekermeister- I run into tasks that refuse to shut down and require termination from time to time and the most accessible and effective method of terminating them is with Comodo v5.0 Proactive Defense+, but it sounds like you have a very persistent piece of software that you're trying to terminate.

Isn't Comodo just a firewall and AV? I tried it once a while back, and it didn't work for me. Of course, I can terminate the process, but it requires rebooting, which is what I'm trying to avoid. This problem is random...sometimes it quits normally or I can terminate it from desktop, but sometimes I can't.

I don't use the AV just the v5.0 Comodo Firewall and Proactive Defense+ which includes their top testing HIPS and a new Sandboxing feature along with a Cloud Behavior Blocker. I'm hoping that you find a program that will terminate that stubborn program on your computer because I'd like to have it on hand also.

I have no idea of how good that it is, but the description of this tool sounds good, and the source also sounds good:
