Windows 7: Chkdsk keeps hanging when countdown hits 1

I have noticed recently that chkdsk hangs at 1 on the countdown and goes no further. I have to reboot machine and cancel the check to proceed. I do not believe its a failing hard drive as the same issue occurs on my second drive. When I run chkdsk within windows on the second drive the same issue occurs. Otherwise everything seems solid, I have been able to run chdsk ok in the past. The only thing that I can think of is I have Avira antivirus running, could this cause the chkdsk to hang?
