It takes 6 and 30 seconds to load a .doc document?

This are my system specs:
Motherboard - Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Model EP45T-UD3LR
Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
RAM - 2.00 GB RAM
Display adapter type - ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Total available graphics memory - 1791 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 1024 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 767 MB
Display adapter driver version - 8.660.0.0
Primary monitor resolution - 1920x1080
DirectX version - DirectX 10

Number of programs installed - Very little. The combined size of Program Files and Windows is about 11GB. So I doubt I installed too many programs.
Security - Norton Internet Security 2010, installed from the first day
Disk Fragmentation - 0% fragmented

System Hard disk - WD Caviar Black 1TB
2nd Hard disk - WD 250GB (i think it is caviar green. i bought it a few years ago when there was no such thing as caviar black)
Program I'm using to open the file - OpenOffice

I was looking at the Windows 7 CPU and RAM widget as I was recording down the time taken. The CPU usage is at around 03% to 07% and the RAM usage is at around 70%.

When I opened a 15KB .doc file on the 2nd hard disk, it took 30 seconds for my computer to load it. I was shocked by this, which is why I decided to test it further and create this thread.

So I then opened a 90KB .doc file on my System hard disk, it took 4-6 seconds to open the file and 1-3 seconds to close. The temporary file took 6 seconds to disappear.

When I went back to my 2nd hard disk and reopened the same 15KB .doc file, this time it took about 2-3 seconds for it to open.

When I opened the Disk Defragmenter to check my fragmentation level, it took about 5-8 seconds for it to open.

Why does it take so long to open the files? What could be wrong with my computer?

You state that you are opening a .doc file... I am assuming that you mean a MS Word file (.doc or .docx), is that the case?

You are using Open Office to do this?

How are you opening these files? Are you finding file and double clicking on file to open both app and doc, or are you opening app (Open Office) and then opening doc through it?

I assume that all your mobo drivers, etc are correctly setup...???

By correctly setup, do you mean the hardware? Or software?
How would you define correctly setup?

Download AbiWord Portable and install/extract to a folder and see if the same thing happens. I don't use OpenOffice because its too porky, but if AbiWord works then there is nothing wrong. You also need more RAM, 4GB is enough for day to day usage.
