No right click send to zip

Windows Explorer doesn't have the right click send to compressed (zip) option. Perhaps I turned it off by accident. It does offer right click extract on a zip file however.

How do I turn on the send to zip option?

Are you using winzip or 7zip?

For 7-Zip, right click on the file or folder, point to 7-Zip then select the Add to archive.

If that isn't there then Uninstall and reinstall it, see if that fixes the problem.

I may be wrong, but I don't think there is a "Send to ZIP" option. Typically you right-click on a file and then choose ZIP > Add to Archive. If you don't see that option, then follow the steps below.

    Try these steps:

    1. Open 7ZIP
    2. Click TOOLS, then OPTIONS
    3. Click on PLUGINS, then OPTIONS
    4. Ensure the shell context option is activated, as shown in the image below

I thought that the option should exist because it appears here.
Compress and uncompress files (zip files)

Does not refer to a separate app like 7zip.

The option does exist. But you must have lost it. As an alternative, you can right click on the desktop > New and create a .zip folder on the desktop and work with that.

You are right...that option refers to a build in ZIP and since it exists in every profile you can copy it back from there

If that option is missing in your user profile..here's how you can restore it:

Send To Context Menu - Remove or Restore Default Items

Click start, paste the following and press ENTER

    %systemdrive%\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

right click the Compressed (zipped) folder and click COPY

now change the URL of that window to shell:sendto press enter
right click into that window and click PASTE to restore the Compressed zipped) folder

Click start, paste the following and press ENTER

I think you have to use a Run box ( Win+R). That will not work in Start/Search.

Try it out, Wolfgang...it works...even with the shell:sendto
Windows Searchbar/run combination is much more powerful/versatile than one should think
